Copenhagen, the capital city of Denmark is investing funds on keeping students of 3rd, 8th and 9th grade in schools for longer hours. This extra time will be used for education on Danish, English and Social Studies.
Copenhagen students will have three extra lessons and more 0.6 hours of school time than the Denmark law recommendation. The students will be trained extensively on English language skills, reading and will be made ready for the labor market. The 9th grade students will be educated on vocational training and social sciences.
The focus on primary school by the Copenhagen City Council is to attract students to these schools. At present one in every four kids is attending public school. Primary schools are a place where kids of different background meet.
This plan of extra classes and extra school hours was a strategy by the city to improve the educational standards of Copenhagen.
The city had added extra class hours for 2nd, 4th and 6th grade in 2011 and in 2012 students of 5th, 8th and 9th grades were given extra hours of teaching in Danish.
